Strategic focus for 2026
The Work Program 2026 outlines NordREG’s key priorities for the coming year, based on its long-term strategy and continued Nordic regulatory cooperation.
In 2026, work will focus on implementing and enforcing European network codes and guidelines, following up on the flow-based capacity calculation in the Nordic day-ahead market, and overseeing developments in balancing markets, including the mFRR Energy Activation Market. NordREG will also continue cooperation on market design, system operation and network regulation, while preparing for future challenges linked to electrification, flexibility and system resilience. Coordination of Nordic input to EU processes and dialogue with stakeholders and European bodies such as ACER and CEER remain central.

2025: A transformative year for Nordic electricity markets
The Annual Report 2025 describes how NordREG supported well-functioning markets during a year of significant change.
Key work included monitoring the introduction of flow-based capacity calculation, following up on the Nordic TSOs’ connection to the European balancing platforms MARI and PICASSO, and overseeing the launch of the mFRR Energy Activation Market and the 15-minute market time unit. NordREG also continued coordinated implementation of European network codes and active participation in discussions on future electricity market design. The year further marked 25 years of Nordic regulatory cooperation and a new organisational structure to strengthen efficiency and knowledge sharing.
